This month’s Behind the Scenes Journal features portraiture captured while in Dallas and Southern Texas for work and visiting with friends.

In this video I decided to break out some of the images I’ve been working on over the past few weeks and dissect the thought process behind creating them. There are discussions including the BTS setups, flash positions, flash equipment, modifier selection, gels, and more. The majority of the discussion is on the thought process behind capturing images. I hope that this can be useful on multiple layers for those capturing their own projects.

There are tons of reviews of gear or quick tutorials on basic flash photography out there. I think taking a deep dive on photos in various environments, exploring the purpose of an image, offers a deeper insight that is more applicable to working as a photographer.
